Biography: The reason that most people still have the January blues is because......they have no money! The reason they have no money is because Christmas has become hundreds of pounds more expensive than it was years ago.

When I was young Christmas was my favourite time of the year as it is with just about every child in the world. What I loved most about Christmas was how magic it was. It wasn't just the exciting presents that made it so magical, it was the idea of Santa flying with his reindeer and dinner with the whole family and it didn't matter how expensive those presents where or how many I got......until I got to high school that is. Then it didn't matter how expensive something was or how much money we didn't have, as long I had that popular mobile phone or that computer and the list goes on and on and on.

Back in those days it was probably a lot cheaper for parents because these days' children don't want toys, they want Xbox's, PlayStation's, iPods and expensive mobile phones. If a friend has it then they must have it and the spending doesn't stop there, with an Xbox comes an Xbox live subscription and extra money for points, same with the PlayStation. With iPods, iPhones and iPad's comes extra money for games, apps, music etc. Compare that to years ago when you would buy monopoly, scrabble or connect four, play the games as a family and that would be that, no more spending!

These days, and I'll use my 12-year-old brother as an example - he comes in from school, goes straight up to his room and we don't see him for hours and there was that one time £50 disappeared from my bank account and was traced back to Microsoft Xbox. These days an Xbox is priced at around £200 and then there are all the games you have to buy.

Same with Apple products, an iPhone 4 will at least cost about £300 and that's probably used, there seems to be an obsession these days to have all things Apple, I say this from personal experience. I have an iPhone 4 but I'm desperate for the iPhone 4S even though there's only about 2 changes and both phones look exactly the same and I need an iPad! No idea why though to be honest because as a student it wouldn't do me much good but I still really want one just the same. I think there's an obsession when it comes to Apple products, people seen them as the best, the most expensive.
